Here I am…

hiding among the greenery. I wore this on Tuesday to an all-day work conference. I had to look decent but it was also hot enough for birds to burst into flames in midflight. Linen and silk (even cheap linen and silk) work well for these kind of circumstances.

These are my new fab shades bought last weekend at the SoWa market from vintage seller Nicole at Fidget Finds. You know how Lucky always describes boutiques as having a “carefully edited” selection? I never really got the phrase until visiting Nicole’s booth. Everything she brought to the market was gorgeous, in great condition, and just plain cool. There was no need to rifle through ugly stuff to get to the good stuff. It was all good. Sadly, I’ve been persuaded to stick to a budget (I type that with a grimace on my face) so I left with only sunglasses. I couldn’t resist a great dress from another vintage seller, so you’ll be seeing that soon.

I Taste, I Love

I’m still obsessing over maxi skirts for hot weather. They are such a good ventilation system. This is another dress worn as a skirt- perfect for getting that floor-sweeping length I’m crazy about.

Dear Topshop

I will not pay $65 for these shorts.

I will pay $10 for fabric paint and find a pair of cutoffs. But thank you for the inspiration.

xoxo,

Blogger’s Ball II

On Tuesday night, I dragged my lazy ass out in the rain to Design Salon’s second Blogger’s Ball. It was focused on design and fashion bloggers starting out who wanted to share information, and of course, wine.

As per usual with blogger events, I was completely nervous in that particular way that only women can be- are my shoes cool enough? are the other bloggers going to like me? what if they’re mean? And as per usual, everyone was friendly and great. We heard some great presentations from Liana from New Brahmin, Erin from Elements of Style, and Jessica from Daucus Carota. It was invigorating to talk about blogging and the desire to connect with people and the fact that enjoying fashion doesn’t make us shallow or unintelligent. I left there with some good advice and a renewed excitement for blogging and enjoying it.

Those tips?

  • Don’t write for what you think your readers want. Write what you want. It’s not like I didn’t already know that, but sometimes you just need to be reminded, you know?
  • Focus on building relationships to build traffic and enjoy yourself. Lately I’ve been looking into SEO and keywords and google ranking and really? That is so secondary to building relationships with awesome women (and men) into fashion. PS- Regular visitors who always comment and show me love? You ladies jam out with your clam out. Thank you 10000000x over.
  • Use tumblr as a quick way to save web junk, images, etc to post about later. Huh. That’s way better than saving shit randomly on both my home and work computer and then forgetting about it.
  • Try to post every day. Liana recounted a story about being told to create a private blog and try posting everyday for a year before moving forward with New Brahmin. I think it’s great to get in the habit of posting regularly because a) it really helps with traffic and b) it becomes sort of theurapuetic to get things off your chest every day, even if it just what you wore. I’m going to try harder to post more frequently.

I can’t wait to hit up another blogger event!

I wish I wasn’t flesh and blood I would not be scared of bullets built with me in mind

I put on this dress and had plans to wear some very cute brown platform pumps. Then I opened up my window and lost a piece of my nose to frostbite. In May. The boots had to come out of hiding. Stupid Boston.

I wish I had taken better pictures of this dress. It’s basically a giant silk rectangle with ties to make a bow in the front of the back. When it’s tied in the back all the fabric bunches up and it looks like a mini-bustle. I’ve worn this dress to weddings and to work. That is versatility baby!

I want more impossible to ignore

So how do you know you talk about your cats too much? Well, if you go to a blogger conference (more on that in another post), see a blogger you haven’t seen in months and the first thing she says to you is “You got a new cat!” Yeah, that’s a pretty good sign.

I made sure to get some photos of my accessories since they are the only bits of color in my grey, grey outfit. Love my earrings- they came to me all the from India. And my blazer? Like $25 at H&M. Perfect if you’re been experiencing sticker shock at the price of blazers elsewhere.

Sessilee Lopez

On my first blog (In Pursuit of Fashion) I wrote about Sessilee Lopez as an upcoming model with a lot of potential. I was right. Check out some recent photos of this beauty.

Pink elephants and lemonade, dear Jessie

Well, I have had a hell of a day. It’s like I spent the evening wrangling cats. Oh wait… I did. Yesterday, I visited the shelter where I got Chloe kitten and fell in love with another cat. So now I have two cats who really don’t like each other. And now I am outnumbered by cats.

Meet Calliope!

She’s a total cuddlebug. She contorts herself in the most awkward ways just to get her head rubbed.

Now on to the clothes! I won this shirt on ebay and find it perfect to throw on for work when I’ve worn jeans and funky tops too many days in a row and my boss is giving me the evil eye. The shoes are new- part of my never-ending parade of recent purchases. I wonder if the cat counts as a recent purchase? hmmm….
