Another Day, Another Swap

by a stylized hysteria on January 22, 2011

in Fun in Boston

On Thursday, I went to my third clothing swap, hosted by The Swapaholics. At this point, I feel like I’m a pro at these things! When I’ve talked about the swaps before, I’ve talked about the experience of being there but not really about what comes after- going through all of my new goodies, figuring out creative ways to wear the stuff that doesn’t necessarily fit seamlessly into my wardrobe, and deciding what needs to be put aside until the next swap! So I’m going to do a mini-fashion show and describe what’s staying, what’s going, and what’s being altered.

There are some additional pieces I grabbed: an Old Navy grey cardigan, a bright pink and red leopard print H&M cardigan, a black 3/4 top from Splendid, a nude tank from H&M with gold sequins, and denim leggings from Urban Outfitters.

What’s Staying

The James Perse top was the darkhorse of the night. It was one of the last items I picked up and I wasn’t excited about it, but it fits perfectly and looks great on.
The Splendid top (not pictured). The quality is fantastic; you can’t even tell it’s been pre-owned.
The H&M sequined tank (not pictured). It’s a great layering piece to throw on for a touch of sparkle.
Both cardigans (not pictured). Because really, who doesn’t need a basic cardigan (or 10) to thrown on?
The Zara jacket. So…it’s a little tight on my chest. And my arms. But I irrationally love it and will find a way to wear it!
The Eileen Fisher long black skirt. It’s just full enough at the bottom to swish around my legs when I walk, and I’ve been dying for a simple long, black skirt for ages!
The Urban Outfitters denim leggings (not pictured). Considering I’m wearing them right now, I’d say they were a good grab!

What’s Being Altered

The Dolce & Gabbana skirt is a bit too big and too long, but it’s well worth the cost to have it tailored. Trends for spring 2011 feature bright patterns prominently, and this pattern is perfect!
The Banana Republic skirt is a maybe. It fits well and the longer length is fine for work (if not a little conservative). But I find myself wondering if it would be nicer hemmed to just above the knees. What do you think?
The black fishnet knit tank fits well, but I’m imagining it as a slightly cropped tank that I wear over a longer, thin tank. So I’m debating on cutting it to hit just above my bellybutton.
The blazer has a oversized, casual fit that I quite like. I already own a light grey blazer, though, so if I keep this one, I’m going to dye it. I’m thinking navy or a deep violet/purple would be interesting.
The Express shorts. Meh. I was hoping they would have a slouchy fit, but I didn’t notice the pleats when I picked them up. I think they look sloppy, not casual. What do you think?

What’s Getting the Boot!

The yellow shirt. It doesn’t fit me and I’m not enamored enough to spend the money on tailoring for it.

And that’s it- that’s all my swap loot! See why I love these events so much?! I’d love to know your thoughts on how else I could make the alteration items work for me.

Dude, that sucks about the dress! Hopefully a good dry cleaner can fix that. I’ll make sure to bring the yellow shirt for you next time we get together :)

Ooh… think the yellow top would fit me? Most of my stuff worked well, but that amazing Anna Sui dress turned out to have pit stains! Hmmph!

OK first, I’m jealous that you all got together and swapped without me. Wahhhh!! Next, how do you always get the best swap swag?!?! That D&G skirt – my god woman. As far as the BR skirt goes, I like it as is. I think you could really sass it up with a slinky top and some kick ass heels. Not that it would be bad above the knee either, but then you’d have to pay for tailoring.
