Business Barbie

in outfits

I think I’ve shared my distaste for formal business wear. It feels like a costume on me, and not even a fun one like slutty schoolgirl or slutty cop or slutty um…single celled amoeba. But my job requires me to look professional once in a while so I thought I’d share my take on work appropriate with my new favorite jacket.

Outfit One
Different patterns but both (somewhat subtle) prints and subdued colors makes this more polished than free-spirited. And the ubiquitous black pants.

Outfit Two
The top of this dress fits a bit weird (truth: I don’t quite fill it out. le sigh). So I tried to disguise the bagginess with a button-down shirt peeking out from the blazer.

i feel the same way about business wear- i actually feel depressed when i have to wear it. but i would be happy in both of your outfits! the striped shirt makes the 1st one awesome, and i love the white shoes in the 2nd one.

Sexy! I like to see bloggers post office-y, corporate-y outfits because I work in a corporate environment and sometimes I have to polish up too. You look great! You definitely managed to look polished but still stylish, unique, and creative.

Big fan of outfit #2. Don’t ever admit to not filling out the top of that dress- you would never know unless you said it. It looks FAB. I find it so hard to dress business Lani and make her fit in with casual Lani. They do not mesh. Business Lani wants to be downtown but has a hard time being downtown and dressy. Will the two ever meet?

My favorite is the second outfit with the skirt. I don’t like wearing suits because I don’t like to look so grown up, ha-ha.

I like that first shirt with it.  Your hair is so pretty in the last batch of photos.

I really like both outfits, actually, particularly #2. You look chic and professional; I’d hire you :) You may have put on the shirt to fill out the jacket, but I think it gives the outfit a pop of color and looks great.
