Fun in Boston

This Weekend

Finally I can say that I’ve taken advantage of my folks being away. This weekend has been fun, fun, fun (we so excited). Starting Friday night with dinner with a friend I haven’t seen in a while that went until 2 am. Saturday afternoon I got a call from the Vince store in Copley mall. Apparently, I won the $250 gift card giveaway from Thursday night’s shopping event. Yay me!

Saturday evening concluded with a bachelorette party, starting at my house and moving on to The Paint Bar in Newton, a limo with champagne, and multiple bars. The Paint Bar is a nightly art class where you paint and drink. Trust me, this is a winning combination.

The theme for the night was Boston’s iconic Citgo sign. But like I said, they let you drink while painting and I came up with a slightly different take on it.

I am so happy with my artwork. I never knew I was such a talented artiste!

Oh, and when I put on my apron at class, I found this in the pocket. To say that’s a big lighter is like saying Kate Moss was a slightly successful model.

Definitely a winning weekend!

Blogger Meet-Up at 28 Degrees

by a stylized hysteria on August 1, 2011

in Fun in Boston,outfits

I am so far behind on my blogging! Since my folks are out of town, I wish I could say it’s because I’ve been living it up and partying. But really, I’ve been doing exactly what I do when they’re home- work, gym, dinner, cat snuggling, and now watering their plants. Which I mention only because it takes about 45 minutes to water all of their plants. I feel like this is kind of absurd, right? Right.

These pictures are from last Wednesday. Kinsey M. took on the impressive task of organizing a blogger get-together just because. It was a great time, filled with wonderfully dressed women (and men). My only regret was not meeting some of the bloggers there I didn’t recognize. Actually, no. My regrets were:

  • Wearing brand new shoes with breaking them in (more on that)
  • Not eating every single piece of food that 28 Degrees provided because it was deeeelicious
  • Not taking more photos of the lovely crowd

I wore a dress from Complex Geometries that was a big crowd-pleaser. Complex Geometries specializes in dresses and tanks in thick jersey that are made to be wrapped, twisted, and artfully thrown over your body. One dress can be worn in a dozen different ways just by draping it differently. The belt is a random find at H&M. I gave in to my leopard desires and got the heels from Steve Madden. About an hour before the meet-up. I sized up, thinking room for an insole was smarter than squeezing my tired feet into new shoes. I was wrong, even with an insole and 2 pairs of heel grips the shoes were a little too big. Oh, and they made my feet go numb. I had to give up and put on my flat sandals after 20 minutes. However, like a squirrel faced with a closed garbage bin, I am nothing if not persistent. I will break these shoes in. Or break my feet trying. They’re so pretty!

That’s the lovely Marissa from The Well-Appointed Catwalk on my left, and Holly from Covetous Creatures on my right.

Melissa from Crunches for Cupcakes and Natalie from Wishful Nals. Aren’t they adorable?

Picture1 071
Michele from Michele’s Musings, Shanna from Shanna’s Eye View, and Kristen from The Boston Fashionista. All hilarious, smart, and wildly entertaining!

Naomi and Lani from Mon Petit Chou Chou. They are both putting me to shame with their tans (and awesome makeup).

Shoes from the end of the night (and my flats!) Julie from Orchid Grey was wearing the most intensely pink sandals ever. it was love at first sight. Clockwise from Julie is Holly, myself, Amy from The Swapaholics, and Marissa.

I promise, loads more posts coming up this week!

Pretty Sparkly Things

I’ve been invited to jewelry shows and sales before, but they’ve never piqued my interest. Why? First of all, my jewelry budget is more Forever21 than Tiffany’s and secondly, if I have money it’s going towards clothes. Or cat costumes. But I received an invite from Persona Jewelry to view a new collection from Atelier Minyon and I fell hard for the sparkly, slightly gothic pieces.

Once there, I was treated to yummy food and drinks made by a modern Renaissance man, Dustin from Persona Jewelry. I was able to try on a-may-zing jewelry from Atelier Minyon, a line from a Turkish jewelry designer, Alp Sagnak. I briefly considered grabbing as many pieces as I could and running out the doors, but I was in really high wedges. Dammit.

I was really drawn to the rings, especially the various skull-themed rings. Every gal needs at least one skull in her life, right?

Picture1 324

Lei ann loved the spiderweb ring. I love her wedding jewelry! Check out her site for more picture from the evening, include a better look at my outfit.

Marissa and Kacy. Kacy writes a blog for tall women and somehow manages to be adorable like a pixie, despite being 6’4″. Also the best photo you’ve ever seen is right here.

Brains…Brains…Brains!

I am still recovering from Memorial Day weekend. Or rather, feeling the aftereffects in the form of a cold that refuses to bend to my will. My favorite part of the weekend (other than my parents being away and being able to drive myself around like a big girl)?

Definitely Saturday’s zombie walk. I went last year and was amazed by the incredibly detailed costumes and makeup. This year I was blown away by the amount of attendees. We’re talking hundreds, probably approaching 1,000 folks all dressed like flesh-eaters. It was quite the spectacle!

After the jump are some photos I took during the walk. Just to be all PC and shit: warning, these photos are not safe for work, small children, big babies, and those with a blood phobia.

It’s a Dog’s World

I know it’s Monday, which is… The Day of the Cat. But on Saturday I went to the Boston Blogger’s Picnic and was charmed by multiple members of the canine family. I gotta say, it was the most fun I’ve had in a while. There were cupcakes and cookies, and food bloggers and fashion bloggers, and sunshine and a carousel ride, and vintage shopping and gourmet cheese at the end of it. All in all, a great day!

The yummy spread from the picnic sponsors!

Cutest doggy butt ever!

Picture1 009

I forgot this doggy’s name, which is too bad because I’m going to steal him and love him forever.

Picture1 014

Hoagie. An absolutely fearless and friendly little dude.

Picture1 052

Weber. Named for the grill, apparently. Although I know there’s only one Weber worth knowing. Steve Weber. Wings. Look it up.

Picture1 024

Gary. Super calm and sweet.
