If you read any other Boston-based fashion blogs, you’ve probably heard about Zoora, a startup from our lovely town that features an interesting idea and a great group of folks working to make it happen. Haven’t heard of Zoora yet? It’s an online boutique stocked with independent designers (from Boston and beyond). The cool part? The items you see on the site are samples, and when you order, you provide your measurements and you get a custom-fitted, tweaked-by-you piece of clothing. I rely on my tailor to take so much of my wardrobe from blah to awesome. That’s the power of having clothes that fit well. I think it’s a great idea, and I can’t wait to see how the public responds to this idea.

And the folks behind Zoora? Well, they threw a kick-ass launch at the Apple store and the following week they had a trunk show with sample pieces and Magners and cupcakes. I think you know by now the road to my heart is paved with alcohol and sugary snacks. And admiring the outfits put together by fellow fashion bloggers.

I got up early this morning. I heard my phone vibrate, assumed it was my alarm and jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. Then I realized it was 2:30 am. Whoops. I never fully got back to sleep, so I got out of bed a couple of hours later and washed my hair (yay!) and picked out a decent outfit to wear.

I wanted to be comfortable, but suspected my boss would give me the side eye if I came into work wearing jeans again. So I went for a long skirt. I threw on a black button-down and was going to leave it at that, then I realized it’s not 1995 and I’m not an extra in The Craft. I added some color and some horse hair tassles and took photos before the sun was even fully out.

Also, I owe you folks a picture of my ear. That’s not code for something weird- I got three studs in my cartilage in January and have been meaning to take photos of it since then! I went to Chameleon tattoo in Cambridge, where I got my second tattoo TEN YEARS AGO. Wow, does that make me feel old. I was lucky enough to go in when Owen was there. He did a great job with the piercing and I contemplated asking for his hand in marriage until I saw that someone had beat me to it. Seriously, so adorable.

This is a super quick post to share a little of what I’ve been up to. Which is artin’ and craftin’ and maybe watching too many cat videos on youtube.

I made this necklace a few weeks ago during a crafternoon with Holly. It was really easy to put the chains together (with the help of a friend) and once I got home, I spray painted the whole thing white and then painted the individual chains with pastel colored acrylic paint. I’m loving pastels for the springtime, especially when paired with last years neons.

Hey blog, long time no see. Between loads of meetings at work that required boring suits and very little weekend fun due to the arm injury, I haven’t had any outfits worth documenting. But today, I managed to put on something vaguely interesting, throw on some new (to me) jewelry, and even style my hair. Woohoo!

Since I’ve been avoiding the real world and its ability to make my arm hurt, I’ve taken up a new hobby: scouring Etsy for vintage jewelry. My favorites list is out of control. I cannot stop myself from looking for beaded bracelets, rhinestone necklaces, and dramatic earrings. In fact, I’ve put myself on a jewelry moratorium for the next few weeks. Then again, I also put myself on a white bread moratorium and my morning croissant was delicious and oh-so white. Self-control is a pain in the butt, man. Maybe I should declare a moratorium on self-control.

You know, based on these pictures, you’d never guess Chloe cat is painfully shy and scared of everyone. She’s such a camera hog!

And a close-up of my necklace, which you might have seen on twitter or instagram yesterday. It’s so detailed and sparkly that it needs something like distressed denim to make it wearable.

It’s that time again! I could post a best and worst dressed list, but everyone else is doing that. So instead, I play fuck, marry, or kill with the lovely ladies of the Golden Globes. My choices are based on outfits (duh), whether or not I like said actress, and if I think she can cook me a nice dinner. I do this fairly often. See here and here and here. Okay, let’s get started!

Fuck

Maria Menounos is looking good in a very hard color to pull off. The fit is flattering (although it’s a touch tight in the hips), but it’s simple, pretty, and bright.

I don’t like Kristen Wiig. I must be the only person who thought Bridesmaids wasn’t that funny. However, she looks hot here. The darker hair is nice, especially contrasting with her nude dress.

Meow. Miss Salma Hayek. So pretty and teeny. It’s kind of absurd how tiny your waist is while your boobs are so big. Anyway, I’ll stop crying over my lack of chest and say how awesome your disco inspired dress is. Yeah, I’d definitely take you home tonight.

Marry

Another nude dress, on Heidi Klum. Maybe Carrie was onto something with her naked dress. I think this is my favorite dress of the evening. This happens to be the perfect shade of nude and the bright turquoise jewelry is phenomenal. And the fit? Not too tight, not shapeless. Just right.

I haven’t seen Ides of March yet, so I still associate Evan Rachel Wood with her short (and gross) relationship with Marilyn Manson. But we’ve all made mistakes, and I can forgive and forget for a dress this gorgeous. It’s part lizard scales, part peacock feathers, and all drama and glamour.

There is not a single picture of Piper Perabo not poufing her dress out and pretending she’s a princess. I don’t blame her one bit. This is one of those dresses you put on, and then consider wearing to go grocery shopping and to work because it’s so pretty you don’t ever want to take it off.

Emma Stone is quite the stylish woman. She always looks good without looking boring, and I’m sure this dress will end up on the top of many best-dressed lists. It’s a gorgeous color on her skin tone.

Kill

My archnemisisis Nicole Kidman. She’s at the top of my list of actresses I irrationally dislike (also, Renee Zellweger and Megan Fox). First of all, I suspect the dress is a Herve Leger bandage dress, which is so passé. She’s clearly trying to look sexy and get into my Fuck category, but it’s not working, Nicole! Lay off the botox, put on a classy dress, and quit being yourself so annoying.

Dear Missi Pyle, this is not your senior prom. Furthermore, wearing a prom dress does not make you appear to be a teenager. That is all.

Uggie the dog from The Artist. This is the first time I’ve seen a dog on the red carpet and I fully support animals at award shows. Especially when they have little itty-bitty bow ties on! Also, I covered his doggy bits for you. This is not that kind of site, folks!

Damn. I thought this was an award show, not a gun show. Jessica Alba, I salute you and your perfectly toned arm and back.

Kat Kramer wins for worst hair AND makeup. I’d never heard of her before the awards, and let me say, this is not the first impression you want to make.

While I can’t get completely onboard with the hair, Tilda Swinton is one cool chick and this is a lovely outfit.

A while back, I watched a horror movie called Frozen. It’s about 3 kids who get stuck in a chair lift after the ski resort has closed down for a long weekend. So, they’re stuck, like, 30 feet in the air and understandably freaked out. Then one of the guys decides to try and jump down to go for help. Dude jumps and attempts to land on his feet. Of course, he breaks both of his legs and his girlfriend and BFF are forced to watch him get eaten alive by wolves since he can’t run away. When I saw this, I thought “WTF? He’s so DUMB! Everyone knows when you’re falling, you should try to land flat instead of on your hands or feet.” Then I congratulated myself for being safe in bed and not being eaten alive by wolves. Fast forward to this week. I find the only patch of ice in Massachusetts (seriously, this is the mildest winter ever) and fall. hard. I try to catch myself with my left arm and end up with a fractured elbow. I now have a little sympathy for Mr. Jump and Land Feet First. But hey, at least there weren’t wolves around when I fell!

All of this is to say that I have no outfit posts this week. I’m healing quite well and can still type, but putting on clothes and doing my hair is a little difficult. but that’s okay. the Jason Wu for Target lookbook has been released. And it has cats. The collections are generally hit or miss with me; and that’s before seeing the (usually disappointing) fabrics in real life. But this collection has some lovely dresses, sweaters, and accessories. I might even line up for this release. As long as the line isn’t in a ski lift with ravenous wolves below me. No. You know what? I’d risk it. Especially for that striped dress and cat scarf!

Over the weekend,I watched an older independent film that didn’t get much attention when it was released. Too bad, because it was pretty good. It was Harry Potter, ever heard of it? In all seriousness, until Sunday I’d never seen a single Harry Potter movie. When they were first released they didn’t appeal to me and only when the last two were released (and looked quite dark and mature) that I was interested. I figured it’s best to start at the beginning, and filled up my Netflix queue. Well, damned if that first one wasn’t completely charming and funny and totally entertaining. I guess I’m not quite as morose as I thought. Can’t wait to get through the rest of the series.

On a slightly related note, Disney is re-releasing Beauty and the Beast in theaters. Who cried a little when she saw commercials for it and heard the songs? Um, not this girl. Nope, not at all.

Grey. Again. It really is my favorite of all the neutrals. Now, let’s discuss maxi skirts. It may be unhygienic and a safety hazard, but I want my maxi skirt to cover my feet completely. I want my hem to graze the floor. And when I see a maxi skirt that stops at the ankle or (dear god) right above the ankle, I get faint. Maxi means maximum, ladies. Go for the length and the drama. Are you in the same camp as me, or do you prefer to not sweep the floor with your clothing?

Obsession is a true art. What began around 11am as a quick look into expanding my header and navigation bar to a full width turned into a 8 hour project involving new widgets, fonts, color palettes, custom css (and the various site crashes that resulted), and oh yeah, a new header. I’m pretty happy with what’s going on now, and I’m going to try really hard not tweak the blog for a while. My time would be much better spent finding a decent corner of the house to take outfit pictures in!

I wore this outfit Friday night to a friend’s casual dinner party. Well, I wore this to work too. Gotta love casual Fridays! This sweater, from Mikkat Market, is the softest piece of clothing I’ve ever touched. My friends took multiple occasions throughout the night to “pet” me and one said I reminded him of a sexy ewok. I can’t think of a higher compliment, can you?

I also wore two horsehair necklaces made by Holly. I assumed most people would find the necklaces a bit odd (at best) or disturbing (at worst). But everyone loved them! So, if you’re getting tired of big baubles, neon colors, and heavy metals, try out horsehair jewelry.

I had some fun painting my nails in a half-grey, half-silver pattern. Very easy and it looks cool as hell in the light! I used Essie Cocktail Bling for the grey and Orlu Shine for the silver.

Let’s talk new years resolutions. I am committed to making some serious changes in my life in 2012. My three main resolutions are: to fall in love, get married before the end of the year, and start planning to make a family.

JUST KIDDING! Those would be my anti-resolutions. As in, if these things happen- the end is nigh, me and my ovaries have been brainwashed, or pod people have taken over the earth. But I am excited for the new year and the painfully optimistic thoughts that go along with the purchase of a fresh calendar and my recently passed birthday. Some of the things I hope to accomplish this year are the same trite goals everyone harps on about: losing weight, being healthier, eating healthier, saving money. Some are quite specific, like buying a new mattress and bed frame and getting Lasik eye surgery. But all of this thinking got my creative juices flowing. Ok, no. All of my wasted hours on pinterest got my creative juices flowing after seeing the passive-aggressive manifesto:

I really like the idea of placing general goals and motivational thoughts and quotes in a nice, simple design. But this one didn’t quite apply to me. So I made my own. Warning: Naughty Language Ahead.

It’s a work in progress. I might add some things. Maybe I’ll completely update it in June. But I like having something right in front on my face (as my laptop wallpaper) that reminds me of who I want to be and what I want to do with my life. Happy New Year! 

I hope you’re as excited about the new year as I am. And I hope you’re feeling good this morning and not overly hungover. I spent that last night of 2011 gorging myself on Chinese food, making loads of noise, and laughing. A lot. I even got a midnight smooch (thanks to my dear friend Hayley), so the year is off to a good start. The one thing I didn’t do last night is bring out my Nikon, so I’m stuck with one fuzzy outfit photo and 2 instagram shots of my accessories.

Getting dressed for a night out always involves some level of judgement. The only full-length mirror in the house is in my parents bedroom, so I usually have an audience when trying to decide what to wear. Like last night. My first 5 outfits were vetoed, and when I decided on this one, the following conversation ensued:

Me: Is this skirt too short?
Mom: Well… for a 28-year old it is. But you don’t look 28 yet, so I guess it’s okay.
Me: Oooookay. Thanks…I think. (Internal dialogue: Did my mom call my skirt slutty??)

On an unrelated note, anyone have space for a blogger and her two cats? I promise not to make too much noise! In the end, my mom was right. The skirt was really, really short. But I used girl logic (opaque black tights make anything short look acceptable) and went about my night. Now, when I said technicolor, I meant it. Dig it, man.
