I love these pants. They somehow manage to look really flattering despite being a giant colorful flower pattern all over my ass and thighs. But I don’t wear them often. Why? A friend of mine relayed a horror story about her friend’s pair splitting up the back seam one day while out and about. Now, this is one of my greatest fashion-related fears. While in high school (at a dance!) my new black pants split right up the butt seam, leaving my thong covered bum exposed to the world. Horrifying does not even begin to explain it. I never bought pants from that store again. I also stopped dancing so vigorously in crowded areas.

So when I decided to wear these pants today, I made sure I had a contingency plan: a knee-length trench coat, and enough money to buy some new pants if needed. I’m just covering my butt bases!

Between the incessant rain and crazy schedule of meetings, I’ve spent the past century 10 days or so drowning in a sea of Hunter rain boots, black work pants, and minimal jewelry. It’s not been pretty. When I woke up this morning, I stood in front of my closet, giddy like a school girl. Why? It’s Friday, the sun is shining, and I can wear some denim to work. And that is enough to make me happy!

This past Friday, I went to the new Rag & Bone store on Newbury Street. Why? Well, the promise of free champagne and snacks is usually enough to get me in the door. But as an added bonus, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, the design duo behind Rag & Bone were in town. I wish I had gotten to meet them because I would’ve asked where they came up with name for the brand. If you aren’t familiar with the line, feast your eyes on some of the loveliness these guys have created:

Nice stuff, right? I wouldn’t be mad if their entire summer collection made its way into my closet. While the clothes (and adorable mini lobster rolls) were enticing, I found my attention focused elsewhere for most of the evening.

 Sadly, he was not for sale.  In all seriousness, did you know football players come that cute? I’ve got to start watching more sports! Thanks to Lani for capturing this shot.

I am always excited about wearing brown and black together, simply because so many people feel that mixing the two is akin punching a stranger in the face (i.e., a terrible, terrible thing to do). But those peeps are wrong, wrong, wrong. Black and brown go together so well, especially in silky fabrics that really bring out the depth of each color. And, because I cannot get dressed without incorporating some bright colors, I added a Native-American inspired necklace from Forever21. And can we talk hair for a second? On Fashionism (my second home based on how much time I spend there), there was discussion that holding your clampless iron vertically rather than at an angle results in really nice waves. Gash darnit, they are right!

Lastly, my latest manicure. I was trying for ink blot nails, but I keep getting “Cow print, huh? That’s…interesting.” At least I like them?

As I mentioned before, my shoe collection is lacking. Especially when it comes to flats. I’m picky. They need to show at least a touch of toe cleavage, they have to be well-made, and if they cut into the back of my heel I will set them on fire. Also, according to my sister I have “peasant” feet which probably makes it that much harder to find flats. Oh, and they have to be affordable. I’ll pony up for boots and gorgeous heels, but flats are so simple that I can’t bring myself to pay a lot for them.

So you can imagine my excitement at finding purrfect flats. Well, kind of. Lands End Canvas is the hipper, trendier off-shoot of Lands End. While perusing their sale rack (an extra 70% off of sale prices!) I found one pristine black flat. No embellishments, a solid bottom, and nicely low-cut in the front. I was determined to get them, even though the only other side I found was a half size too small. Hey, leather flats for $10? I’ll take it. I brought the smaller side to a cobbler, had it stretched, and now I’m in plain black flat heaven. That’s called thinking out of the (shoe) box, people!

Oh, yeah, there’s an outfit too.

I am having a shoe moment. These days, I open my closet and I can’t see any glaring holes in it. I’m pretty well-stocked. I look at my shoe collection, however, and my brain goes
“OMG, MUST BUY ALL THE SHOES IN THE WORLD. NEED MORE OPTIONS.”

1. Alexander Wang Gabrielle- It’s like regular leather and patent leather had a beautiful baby. Mazel Tov!

2. Plomo Veronique- Great for spring. And summer. And fall. And winter.

3 and 6. Rebecca Minkoff Bettina- so pretty that I can’t decide on a color!

4. ONE by Marais USA- This phrase is practically a cliche at this point, but I gotta say it- These are so french chic!

Last week I went to a party hosted by Ann Taylor to celebrate the opening of their new concept store in the Prudential Mall in Boston. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it’d be a big party and I should at least try to not show up in a wrinkled button-down and cardigan from the workday. I’ve always loved the look of a sheer shirt with an interesting bra underneath, so I tentatively tried it out with a bralette that provided more coverage than the average bra (although sadly did not magically give me a six pack) under a semi-sheer shirt. And of course, heels. Sometimes mentally exiting the workplace/workday requires nothing more than some kick ass heels.

On Thursday evening, a friend lent me The Hunger Games trilogy. I had only planned to read the first book so I could follow the story when I go see the movie. Instead, I spent 90% of the entire weekend glued to my bed and plowed through all three books. Now I really can’t wait to see the movie!

So the weekend wasn’t filled with amazing outfits (although I did take a brief break to meet Dina and Amber for lunch and had more fun than should be humanly allowed). So…here’s what I wore last week.
