People often talk about the high that comes from shopping, especially finding something amazing on sale. If shopping is a high, then I shall spend the rest of my life chasing the dragon of the Stel’s bag sale. A friend casually mentioned to me that Stel’s, a boutique with a great mix of edgy and refined clothes from very cool labels, was having a sale. You purchase a paper shopping bag for $25, $50, or $75 (depending on the size) and you fill it with sale items.

Holy hell, right?

I got there about 15 minutes after the store opened and was greeted by just a few other hardcore bargain shoppers. I tried on a ton of stuff, including high-waisted Alexander Wang pants, Opening Ceremony pleated wool trousers, and Surface to Air dresses. For every 3 things I tried on, 2 of them went back on the racks. But don’t feel bad for me, I managed to stuff a bag with some amazing finds. Now here’s where the bragging rights come in: Had I purchased everything at full price, I would’ve paid probably $1500, $1600 total. What did I pay? $50. freaking. dollars. Yeah, I’m dusting my shoulders off right now (shopping pimp)! Here’s a teaser of a few of the items I got…

I’ve been invited to jewelry shows and sales before, but they’ve never piqued my interest. Why? First of all, my jewelry budget is more Forever21 than Tiffany’s and secondly, if I have money it’s going towards clothes. Or cat costumes. But I received an invite from Persona Jewelry to view a new collection from Atelier Minyon and I fell hard for the sparkly, slightly gothic pieces.

Once there, I was treated to yummy food and drinks made by a modern Renaissance man, Dustin from Persona Jewelry. I was able to try on a-may-zing jewelry from Atelier Minyon, a line from a Turkish jewelry designer, Alp Sagnak. I briefly considered grabbing as many pieces as I could and running out the doors, but I was in really high wedges. Dammit.

I was really drawn to the rings, especially the various skull-themed rings. Every gal needs at least one skull in her life, right?

I am still recovering from Memorial Day weekend. Or rather, feeling the aftereffects in the form of a cold that refuses to bend to my will. My favorite part of the weekend (other than my parents being away and being able to drive myself around like a big girl)?

Definitely Saturday’s zombie walk. I went last year and was amazed by the incredibly detailed costumes and makeup. This year I was blown away by the amount of attendees. We’re talking hundreds, probably approaching 1,000 folks all dressed like flesh-eaters. It was quite the spectacle!

I am so excited about this that I’m literally dropped everything I was doing to share this with you guys. Bacon and Beer Festival. Are you tingly with excitement yet? On Saturday, April 30 the annual Boston Bacon and Beer Festival comes around to make life a little better and tastier. I could give you all the details, like the fact that some of Boston’s best restaurants are serving bacon based dishes which will be paired with a variety of great beers. But really, if you weren’t sold by the words “bacon” and “beer” then I just don’t know what else to do.

that I am utterly boring. Wait, let me back up. During Boston Fashion Week, I met some cool characters, including Holly. Holly is a new blogger, has an understanding of styling and fashion that chillingly good, and is just generally adorable. So when she asked to me join her and her friends to do a fashion, art, and music showing at Great Scott, I was thrilled. So I left my little bubble in the Back Bay/South End (read-wealthy yuppies) and traveled to Allston. Anyway, Holly,Leigh, and everyone else was adorable and friendly. They shared their beer and no one discussed their 9-5 day job, their bills, or the errands they need to run over the weekend. It was fairly early on that I realized that I am so much closer to that lifestyle that I’ve disliked for so long. You know, business casual during the day, Saturday nights out that end before midnight, no new experiences. So I am taking suggestions for something ridiculous and out of character. Let’s keep it legal, though (unless you want to email me)!

The styling was, of course, fantastic. Uncle Pete’s provided the most amazing clothes from Rick Owens, Society for Rational Dress, and Sea. I nearly cried (I mean actual tears) when I saw a Rick Owens denim jacket with leather sleeves. Holly picked an amazing white cotton shirt from Rick Owens that I wore as a dress, with two pairs of textured tights from H&M and my own jewelry and heels from Nine West. Amanda from red bird vintage gave us all some amazing makeup, and Bill Paul from a salon whose name has escaped me Bradley & Diegal (Holly, remind me Thank you!) gave me an awesome bang trim.

So here we are, nearly a week after the show and I’m just posting pictures from the Nirva show last Monday. I also reviewed the show for New Brahmin. It was my favorite show in terms of the clothes. They were so beautiful and classy and colorful. At the last moment, I hopped up from my seat in the audience and snuck into the photographers pit, which allowed me to get some pretty good photos. Do you like the collection as much as I do?

My brain and feet are still fried from the week. In addition to doing lots of fun stuff for Boston Fashion Week, I’ve also had a hell of a week at work. And a certain cat duo still think my bed makes a great boxing ring. But only when I’m asleep in it.

I wore this on Tuesday night to see Emily Muller’s premiere collection. It was great, by the way- photos to come. I learned something important that night. A strapless shirt, skin-tight jeans, and high heels are not conducive to taking photographs. Trust me on this. On the other hand, my strapless shirt from H&M is a total win. It looks great in real life. [Update- I originally said the shirt is from H&M, but it's really from Forever21. My apologies!]

Last night I rolled myself off the couch and headed out to my second Boston Fashion Week event, Sam Mendoza’s showing at Rocca in the South End. It was the perfect end to the weekend and the best thing to pump me up for upcoming events.

Like I said on twitter, anyone who thinks Boston isn’t stylish was proven wrong. It was absolutely packed and everyone looked great. No North Face, Patagonia, uggs, or Lily Pulitzer in sight. I was busy wrestling with my purse, jacket, camera, and glass of prosecco (yum), so I couldn’t stalk individuals for outfit pics. But imagine heels, heels, and more heels. Layered rock-n-roll silver necklaces and nature-inspired jewelry. Gorgeous afros, blondes with waves, and bangs on nearly everyone. Preppy college style taken to the next level with letterman’s jackets and cardigans. Lots of silk and patterns.

So, yeah beautiful people, beautiful clothes. And a lovely collection from Sam Mendoza. He has quite the loyal following in Boston and everyone seemed very impressed with his newest work. It was a very small collection shown my models lounging on a set, surrounded by persian rugs and bottles of champagne. The majority of the collection was beautiful gowns, but I loved the drapey tops and casual pants the most. I got a few photos of the collection with my tiny and very old point-and-shoot. Ugh. A new compact camera is the newest item on a long list of things I want to purchase. Where oh where is my sugar daddy??

This is the last of that sort of thing. Now I’m cleaning up and I’m moving on, going straight and choosing life. I’m looking forward to it already. I’m gonna be just like you.

I went to the gym this morning and was very excited to see my favorite movie, Trainspotting, on the tv. It was like visiting with old friends. Friends who are heroin addicts, have terrible hygiene, and are generally fucking insane.

Boston Fashion Week is going right now, continuing through till Friday or Saturday. I’ll be covering some of the shows for New Brahmin, so make sure to check the site! I’m also heading to the Swapaholics swap and blogger meet-up on Thursday. I already have set aside a bag of goodies. I cannot wait!

In the meantime, here’s an outfit I wore to work last week. I really love the socks and sandals together, although I gotta a hell of a lot of odd looks. The skirt is a maxi skirt from H&M that I wear often. I pinned the front up and the back fell naturally into a balloon hem.

I tried to salvage this photo, which came out terribly. As if the shoes aren’t bright enough, the dress is that yellow-green neon shade that is notoriously hard to photograph. I ordered the dress months and months ago and was pissed when I received it and realized it’s completely sheer. It took another couple of months to find something to layer underneath. And still I went all summer without wearing it. Since it was the last weekend of August, I figured I might as well break it out.

I wore it to Bond lounge in the Langham Hotel in Post Office Square. Bond, by the way, is gorgeous, the music is great, and the drinks are stiff. If you’re in Boston, you should visit. I got quite a few compliments on my outfit, albeit from some very drunk folks. I’m debating on wearing this dress during the day. Yay? Nay?
