This outfit is better suited for a date, I think. Or possibly for convincing people I am in a family way (love that phrase). To clarify, I am not in a family way, I’m just wearing a poofy dress. I got this dress at my very first clothing swap last month. It was a very cool event, held by Clothes-Minded, a duo of stylish ladies who host swap parties and offer personal shopping services. This dress was one of the rejects no one picked, so I grabbed it. It has a giant gold zipper going down the front, and with the ruffles the whole thing is a bit much. So I covered up the top with a loose t-shirt, belted the whole situation to keep people from trying to grab my belly and say “how precious” and threw on some comfortable sandals.
Then I made a funny face and a took a picture.

Another day, another long skirt. There’s really no cons to wearing a long skirt. When you walk, it’s nice and cool and breezy. When you’re being attacked by air-conditioning your legs are covered up. They make everyone look taller and don’t require shaving your legs. Yup, a long skirt is the perfect article of clothing.
For those who read yesterday’s rant about consumerism and my pledge to wear most of my clothes before buying any more, there are indeed two new additions to my wardrobe in this outfit.

Number one is this super cute and lightweight shirt from urban outfitters. Gifted to me from one of the lovely ladies on fashionism, I think I’ll be wearing this loads as the summer heats up. Number two is my footwear. Every summer, I visit GoJane and buy a few trendy flat sandals at ridiculously low prices. They rarely last past the fall, but for $15-25 bucks a pair, I think I get my money’s worth. These are really comfortable and may just last me a few seasons.
Chloe cat is in her typical formal-wear outfit. Why she insists on wearing fur in the god-awful heat is beyond me. She’s clearly a blue-blood.

Lastly a close-up of my new favorite necklace. My sister bought it for me when she visited last month. It’s just dainty enough to be worn with nearly everything.

Beginning (well, middle of the night)

end of the night

Ever get a thought lodged in your head and it doesn’t go away, no matter what? No amount of alcohol, food, or laughter could stop me from thinking that thing.

I have been obsessed with the Elizabeth and James knuckle ring since I first saw it. It was sold out a for a while, so when I started hunting for it, I was scoping out ebay. Big mistake since the price was inflated about 30000%.

Elizabeth and James knuckle ring, the real thing
So I settled for a knockoff on ebay. It looked fantastic and heavy in the pictures, but when I ripped open the packaging, I got this…

It’s the ring on my middle finger
I mean, it’s not bad. It’s a nice ring. It’s no Elizabeth and James knuckle ring. But it’s okay because I think this has finally driven home the fact that sometimes it is truly worth it to stop bitching and being cheap and just buy the damn item I really want.
And now the ring is re-stocked on bloomingdales.com, and the brass version is looking especially lovely…
