Fallback

Hi! I’m still alive! Between a work conference, workin’ on my fitness, and living through the grey days of winter, I haven’t even thought about wearing a cute outfit, let alone blogging about it. It’s no coincidence that today, the day I put on something nice, is the first sunny and warm day in Boston for a while.

I lusted after these bright pink J.Crew pants for months. By the time I got comfortable with the idea of paying full price, they were sold out everywhere. But now, they are mine and they were on sale and I loooove them. Figuring out what to pair them with was a bit tough, though. I decided to save my brain power for accessories and grabbed my fallback,  a button-down shirt. At what point does a piece of clothing go from being a “signature” piece to something you default to without making any real effort?

Business Barbie

I think I’ve shared my distaste for formal business wear. It feels like a costume on me, and not even a fun one like slutty schoolgirl or slutty cop or slutty um…single celled amoeba. But my job requires me to look professional once in a while so I thought I’d share my take on work appropriate with my new favorite jacket.

Outfit One
Different patterns but both (somewhat subtle) prints and subdued colors makes this more polished than free-spirited. And the ubiquitous black pants.

Outfit Two
The top of this dress fits a bit weird (truth: I don’t quite fill it out. le sigh). So I tried to disguise the bagginess with a button-down shirt peeking out from the blazer.

Through the pain, I always tell the truth

That’s a lie. I don’t think I know anyone who always tells the truth. I think that says more about the world than the company I keep.

This outfit is from last week, I am really far behind with my outfit pics. Work has been busy and the weekend included more work and an emergency vet visit for a limping Calliope (who’s doing just fine now). So…colorblocking. Colorblocking is a huge trend now, which I find amusing because as a teen I wore a lot of looks that would be considered colorblocking. But hey, any excuse to wear obnoxiously bright colors is a-okay with me!

I threw a jacket on top for warmth, although I think it takes away from the outfit. The shirt is my mother’s. It’s this amazingly heavy jersey-type fabric that is obviously from a time when clothes were well made and worth the prices (J.Crew, I’m talking to you)!

These pictures are the best PSA for the need to use concealer ever. All I need is a bloody limb hanging out of my mouth and I could be mistaken for a zombie.

Furrrrrrry

A little while ago I mentioned that I got a great faux fur coat, and I finally got a chance to wear it and photograph it. I first saw it in October at a Boldfacer’s event and fell in love. I followed the shopping rule that everyone says you should- I walked away and gave it 24 hours to see if I still loved it. And 3 days later, I was still obsessing and went to Lit Boutique to get it. And I’m still obsessed with it!

faux fur coat

I wore this Thursday night to the Pretty. Eventful. charity fashion show, which was a blast because 1) the outfits (from Turtle in the South End) were great, 2) the model’s bouffants have me now trying everything possible to make my hair MASSIVE, 3) I got to meet some more boston-based bloggers who were very cool, and 4) I won a very generous gift card to Union Bar and Grille! My first thought was “I’m going to take a date out on the most awesome dinner date ever, and he’ll have to put out.” Then I thought that it’d be nice to get my parents out of the ‘burbs to enjoy a nice night out. Yep, I’m a good daughter.

Please notice the new table, which the cats have decided is their new lookout post. I love it. Love it!

So all the plants have been transferred to the other side of the wall. I feel like I need to redecorate so the rest of my apartment matches my cool new table.

UPDATE: It seems I’m not the only one who thinks a snakeskin silver side table is a great idea! For those who asked, I got the table at Homegoods in Braintree, MA. It was the only one in the store and didn’t have a label or brand name, unfortunately. However, Homegoods is a great place to find oneoff’s like the table so I highly recommend checking out your local one.
