Eating My Words

Remember months and months ago when I was all “eww, wedge sneakers are the suck”?

As Wendy Brandes cleverly put it, never is the next new thing. So, uh, you like my sneaks?

Maison Martin Margiela x H&M

Since I heard about the Maison Martin Margiela collection for H&M, I’ve been tingly with anticipation. However, the Thursday morning release meant I’d probably miss the entire collection. Well, the stars aligned and I was able to be one of the first into the Downtown Crossing store in Boston. I was immediately impressed by the quality of the collection, especially the tailored items. I grabbed a blazer, draped skirt, and a silver candy wrapper clutch.

As lovely as the collection is, it’s also quite expensive, even by designer collaboration standards. So I’m torn. Do I keep it all?

The detailing on the blazer is incredible, but I find it tight in the arms and too loose in the chest.

I love the skirt in theory, but the lining is thin polyester which shows every wrinkle.

If I end up keeping anything from the collection, it’ll be candy wrapper clutch. It’s just large enough to go from functional to ridiculous. But it’s so fun!

Ironically, after my excitement in getting a spot in line for the release, it seems that most stores have plenty of the items still available. I might end up going back for this sweater.

(Almost) Monochromatic

You know the best part of getting a new bed? Deciding to get a new bed and then picking it out. You know the worst part of getting a new bed? Absolutely everything else that follows, from picking up the bed to getting rid of the old one to putting together the new one.  I’m still sore from all the heavy lifting. But I am sleeping well in my new bed!

Don’t I look well-rested?

If I hadn’t made me, I would’ve been made somehow

This shirt has been sitting in my closet for months now. I kept telling myself that I was waiting for a special event to wear it. But this morning I realized I was breaking one of my few style rules, which is to not wait to wear something I love. Clothes should be worn and enjoyed, not relegated to your closet to wait for their moment to shine. So I threw it on, pinned the top for modesty’s sake (although, considering how dateless I’ve been lately, maybe I shouldn’t have), and added some casual jeans and sandals.
