Happy New Year! 

I hope you’re as excited about the new year as I am. And I hope you’re feeling good this morning and not overly hungover. I spent that last night of 2011 gorging myself on Chinese food, making loads of noise, and laughing. A lot. I even got a midnight smooch (thanks to my dear friend Hayley), so the year is off to a good start. The one thing I didn’t do last night is bring out my Nikon, so I’m stuck with one fuzzy outfit photo and 2 instagram shots of my accessories.

Getting dressed for a night out always involves some level of judgement. The only full-length mirror in the house is in my parents bedroom, so I usually have an audience when trying to decide what to wear. Like last night. My first 5 outfits were vetoed, and when I decided on this one, the following conversation ensued:

Me: Is this skirt too short?
Mom: Well… for a 28-year old it is. But you don’t look 28 yet, so I guess it’s okay.
Me: Oooookay. Thanks…I think. (Internal dialogue: Did my mom call my skirt slutty??)

On an unrelated note, anyone have space for a blogger and her two cats? I promise not to make too much noise! In the end, my mom was right. The skirt was really, really short. But I used girl logic (opaque black tights make anything short look acceptable) and went about my night. Now, when I said technicolor, I meant it. Dig it, man.

Just one ruffle, though. I wasn’t going to post this outfit because it’s not my most exciting outfit, but it’s a good example of how I dress when I want to be comfortable but I also have meetings during the day and have to pretend to be an adult. Also, I’m just thrilled to be out of bed and getting dressed. I spent Thursday through Sunday in bed with bronchitis. Now I know that bed rest isn’t going home and sleeping after work, it’s spending 16 hours a day sleeping because your body needs it.

I’ve officially created a monster. Chloe refuses to stay away when I’m taking outfit photos! But to be fair, she is always dressed for the occasion.

In my last post, I alluded to a new DIY to share. Well, here it is! One random Saturday night a few weeks ago, I found myself thinking “I need more silver in my life. Shiny, shiny robot-like silver.” So I started painting a blazer I had brought home from a clothing swap months ago. It took me forever to finish this project, solely due to laziness on my part. It was incredibly easy to do, however. I used acrylic paint (Jacquard Lumiere) and a sponge to paint it on. If you’re considering giving this a try, definitely use Jacquard Lumiere acrylic paint. I tried using Martha Stewart acrylic paint and it made the sleeves incredibly stiff.

And a beauty word, if I may. I’m always on the lookout for a shimmer powder that looks like a radiant glow rather than “I just did naughty things with a bag full of glitter.” And I finally found it. MAC pigment in naked is absolutely perfect for looking well-rested and pretty and subtly lit from within. Give it a try!

Even with the extra hour thanks to Daylight Saving Time, the weekend was still too short. I finally wrapped up a DIY I started weeks ago and caught up on my blog reading. And then it was Sunday evening and I got excited because even though it meant the weekend was over, my new favorite TV shows were on. Have you seen Once Upon a Time yet? It’s a fun take on classic fairy tales. And Robert Carlyle plays Rumpelstiltksin, which infinitely adds to the awesome. And there’s The Walking Dead. This season has been fantastic so far (although there could be a little more zombie carnage)!

I finally replaced one of my favorite pairs of shoes: my black ankle boots. It’s bittersweet because um, hi, they are awesome looking. However, they barely survived two years (and that includes multiple repairs). I feel like boots should last way longer than two years- am I asking too much (ahem, Jeffrey Campbell)?

However, the newest members to my show family are just as awesome looking, more comfortable, and were on sale at Shopbop. Pretty much haven’t stopped wearing them since I got them.

Louis Boston, that is. Just last night Louis Boston, a high-end boutique (with an amazing range of clothing) on the waterfront in South Boston , held a party for fashion bloggers in the city. I am desperate for any excuse to stay in the city rather than trekking back to the burbs so I was all for it. It was my first time visiting Louis Boston and I wasn’t disappointed. At least, until I checked the pricetags! The store carried some really gorgeous, unique pieces and a sick collection of shoes. And they had cheese platters (which for me equals heaven)!

Besides ogling the amazing clothing, I got to see some of the wonderful Boston bloggers and fashion lovers who make these events so much fun. I don’t think I say it enough, so let me say it now: there are some really kickass, friendly, awesome ladies in this city!

A while back I fell in love with Casey O’Connell’s artwork and recently I’ve felt the desire to switch up my layout a bit. I combined my favorites from her new pieces. I’d love to be as glamorous and lovely as the star of my header.

I wore this last night to a birthday dinner for my dear friend Molly. We went to Back Bay Social Club, where the service was lacking but the food was absolutely fantastic. My red lipstick was a big hit; the birthday girl put some on and it looked amazing on her.

My lovely Monday evening was cut short when I came home last night and found poor Chloe Cat trying to use the litterbox and only getting out a few drops of  blood. I immediately went into English Patient mode, following her around the apartment, trying to hug her and offer her comfort for her pain. My attempts at being a nursemaid were cut short when Chloe decided that sneak arial attacks on Calliope were more fun than me harassing her.  I managed to get a vet visit scheduled for this afternoon. Turns out she has a bladder infection but will be fine after some antibiotics. I tried to convince myself it was nothing, but I have to admit, I’m so massively relieved now that I have confirmation. I sure do love her little grumpy face.

I didn’t even bother to take an outfit photo until after the vet visit. But I’m glad I took the time to get one because…um…I like my outfit.

In case you were wondering…

I think this is the longest I’ve gone without updating my blog since I started blogging a few years ago. I’ve been stressed dealing with things to the point where it being Christmas has barely fazed me. Things seem to be slowly getting back to normal (or a somewhat low-quality facsimile). Which is good because I’ve got less than a week to start harassing people about my birthday.

My poor camera has been collecting dust, but I wore this outfit a while back and never posted it. In the winter, even faux leather is warmer than denim!
