Black and Neon

Time definitely moves faster as you get older. I remember New Years Eve, thinking “I’ll accomplish so much this year!” And uh, I haven’t quite knocked everything off my to-do list and we’re speeding towards November. I haven’t even taken time to fully appreciate one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. Even if I don’t put on a costume, the simple fact that there are so many horror movies on TV fills my heart with glee. Which may have something to do with my lack of recent posting.

I’ll try to get back to a more regular schedule. I’m sure, of course, you’ve missed me dearly. Today I got dressed for a meeting, but realized I looked more like a teen heading to private school so I threw on some platform boots and red lipstick. The effect is professional, not school-girl hooker, right?

I then added some DIY jewelry to ensure no one mistakes me for an actual adult. Man, that would suck. Now, I’ve tried acrylic paints, paint markers, chalk paint, and nail polish to create neon jewelry and I think the best products I’ve found are the acrylic paint and nail polish. Chalk paint sucked the big one. A little helpful advice, from me to you.

What I’m Loving Now… February Edition

It’s been a while since I’ve had some products to recommend, but these have seriously been rocking my world.

Eucerin Calming Body Wash

This stuff is amazing. My skin gets dry and itchy in the winter, so I needed something gentle. This is a great body wash but it’s an even better shaving oil. It makes my legs feel so smooth. I’ll never use anything else.

Make Up For Ever lipstick in 203 and MAC blush ombre in azalea blossom

I’m always on the hunt for the most intense hot pink lipstick I can find. Well, I found it! It’s a great creme formula that turns my lips into pure barbie doll goodness. I love using just a teeny bit for a softer pink for work. As for the blush? Instant cheekbones. And surprisingly not chalky on my darker skin tone.

MAC eyeshadow in blackberry

The nail polishes are great, but they’re old news. The eyeshadow is a great approximation of Metro Chic (the polish on the right). It’s a dark neutral taupe on me. Great for everyday or for glamming up with a smokey eye.

Do you have any products I should be raving about next month?

What I'm Loving Now… September Edition

by a stylized hysteria on September 27, 2009

in Random

My alter ego, miss spendaholic avoid-reality, has reared her ugly head this past month and forced me to buy loads of new things. The downside? I’m eating ramen noodles until Halloween. The upside? I have found some awesome products that’ll keep me happy for a while!

bobbibrown
Bobbi Brown Corrector

I’ve never really found a product that covers my under eye circles and looks completely natural. Either the coverage isn’t enough or the color looks grey, white, yellowish, or just plain off. This miracle product actually covers my circles and looks totally natural. I have it in dark peach, with looks orange in the pan. It seemed so odd to put orange under my eyes, but it does the job! My only complaint is that it gets a little cakey without powder to set it. But hey- I’ll deal!

lip balm
L’Occitane Shea Lip Balm

I need lip balm. All the time. But I hate shiny, wet looking lip balm. So i set out to find a super moisturizing, matte, yummy lip balm. And yay because it does exist! This stuff is my dream. It smells like sweet lemon, is nice and thick, and leaves my lips looking natural, not like I covered them in grease. The only downside is that it costs $10. Holy highway robbery, right? I’m sad to admit I’ll keep paying this ridiculous price unless I find something cheaper that looks exactly the same.

tribalist

MAC lipstick in Tribalist

I love the dark lipstick trend this winter. So I ordered a lipstick online called “almost black.” Well, that was bad. shudder. I went to MAC to try out Cyber, their well-known dark shade. And it was nice, but Tribalist was a touch lighter and had more brown, less purple. It’s my official dark lipstick.

living proof

Living Proof Conditioner and Styling Creme for Coarse/Thick hair

Well wow. Just wow. I bought a trial size of the hair creme and thought, this stuff is pretty good. I’m digging it. Then I ran out. Then I realized that life without this stuff was like life without sunlight, pizza, and zombie movies. I just got the conditioner and it’s equally awesome.
