Obsession is a true art. What began around 11am as a quick look into expanding my header and navigation bar to a full width turned into a 8 hour project involving new widgets, fonts, color palettes, custom css (and the various site crashes that resulted), and oh yeah, a new header. I’m pretty happy with what’s going on now, and I’m going to try really hard not tweak the blog for a while. My time would be much better spent finding a decent corner of the house to take outfit pictures in!

I wore this outfit Friday night to a friend’s casual dinner party. Well, I wore this to work too. Gotta love casual Fridays! This sweater, from Mikkat Market, is the softest piece of clothing I’ve ever touched. My friends took multiple occasions throughout the night to “pet” me and one said I reminded him of a sexy ewok. I can’t think of a higher compliment, can you?

I also wore two horsehair necklaces made by Holly. I assumed most people would find the necklaces a bit odd (at best) or disturbing (at worst). But everyone loved them! So, if you’re getting tired of big baubles, neon colors, and heavy metals, try out horsehair jewelry.

I had some fun painting my nails in a half-grey, half-silver pattern. Very easy and it looks cool as hell in the light! I used Essie Cocktail Bling for the grey and Orlu Shine for the silver.

Or rather, fancy tights. My unofficial theme for the week has been funky tights. Dunno why, but I like it. I’ve amassed quite the collection of tights since I started blogging. Before this, I think I had black tights, black tights, and maybe a pair of navy tights. However I vaguely remember one particularly awesome outfit from high school. It was a blue sweater, denim skirt, bright pink tights, and black fishnets over the tights. I was so cool.

Even with the extra hour thanks to Daylight Saving Time, the weekend was still too short. I finally wrapped up a DIY I started weeks ago and caught up on my blog reading. And then it was Sunday evening and I got excited because even though it meant the weekend was over, my new favorite TV shows were on. Have you seen Once Upon a Time yet? It’s a fun take on classic fairy tales. And Robert Carlyle plays Rumpelstiltksin, which infinitely adds to the awesome. And there’s The Walking Dead. This season has been fantastic so far (although there could be a little more zombie carnage)!

Grey is my word/color of the day. The majority of my closet is grey- it’s one of my favorite colors. Pink is another favorite, and I’m still super excited about the extensions I got during Fashion’s Night Out a few weeks ago from Salon Acote. They gave me red and blonde extensions and I rushed out to Hot Topic right after and got some pink hair dye. Bless my boss and her infinite patience with my sartorial choices!

The necklace is a DIY I actually did, based on this from Bleach Black. I got a vintage necklace on Etsy, some bright chalk paint markers and colored away. I’m not thrilled because it flakes off easily, but it’ll do until I can get an actual Tom Binns piece. Or a better “inspired by” piece!

I am so far behind on my blogging! Since my folks are out of town, I wish I could say it’s because I’ve been living it up and partying. But really, I’ve been doing exactly what I do when they’re home- work, gym, dinner, cat snuggling, and now watering their plants. Which I mention only because it takes about 45 minutes to water all of their plants. I feel like this is kind of absurd, right? Right.

These pictures are from last Wednesday. Kinsey M. took on the impressive task of organizing a blogger get-together just because. It was a great time, filled with wonderfully dressed women (and men). My only regret was not meeting some of the bloggers there I didn’t recognize. Actually, no. My regrets were:

• Wearing brand new shoes with breaking them in (more on that)
• Not eating every single piece of food that 28 Degrees provided because it was deeeelicious
• Not taking more photos of the lovely crowd

I wore a dress from Complex Geometries that was a big crowd-pleaser. Complex Geometries specializes in dresses and tanks in thick jersey that are made to be wrapped, twisted, and artfully thrown over your body. One dress can be worn in a dozen different ways just by draping it differently. The belt is a random find at H&M. I gave in to my leopard desires and got the heels from Steve Madden. About an hour before the meet-up. I sized up, thinking room for an insole was smarter than squeezing my tired feet into new shoes. I was wrong, even with an insole and 2 pairs of heel grips the shoes were a little too big. Oh, and they made my feet go numb. I had to give up and put on my flat sandals after 20 minutes. However, like a squirrel faced with a closed garbage bin, I am nothing if not persistent. I will break these shoes in. Or break my feet trying. They’re so pretty!

I got this dress at H&M about a month or so ago and I’m surprised I haven’t seen it making the rounds on other blogs. Am I the only one who thinks it’s totally awesome? Also, I’m finally acknowledging my obsession with button-down shirts recently. Whenever I have a doubt about what to wear, I grab a button down shirt. They’re more casual than blazers, although not as warm. Hence, my sitting in the office with a giant fleece blanket wrapped around me.

Yesterday I heard that there’s a remake of Total Recall in the works. It will undoubtedly suck as most remakes these days do suck. Which got me thinking, which is the best remake I’ve seen? Hands down, it’s got to be The Thomas Crown Affair. Which features the amazing Nina Simone song “Sinnerman.” Which also has been remixed (in various and sucky incarnations).

Like I said in my last post, I’m way behind on my outfit pictures- and please excuse the messy background. I hate cleaning I was running late. This outfit is from Monday. And it’s Friday (yay Friday!). Oh, and it’s Friday the 13th. The Friday the 13th movies aren’t really that good, but any excuse to watch a horror movie, right?

After Arcade Fire won the Grammy this year, someone created a tumblr with all the tweets from people who had never heard of them who were outraged that Justin Bieber hadn’t won. My favorite comments were the ones asking “Who’s The Suburbs and why did some stupid album called Arcade Fire win?” I only bring this up because I recently created an Arcade Fire station on Pandora and I’ve been enjoying the mix quite a bit.

So… yellow tights. I got a ton of crazy looks yesterday when I wore this outfit. People in Boston act like they’ve never seen a grown woman dress like a British schoolgirl before.

Do you know that Kurt Cobain took his own life 17 years ago today? It’s so odd to think that I was only 10 years old when it happened and yet I was already listening to so much Nirvana. I remember my friends and the older kids being horrified at the loss of someone we all related to, or wanted to relate to. To be honest, it still makes me a little sad.

In general, my mind has been thinking 90′s. Going back into your high school bedroom will do that to ya. I’ve been rediscovering the grunge music that helped me achieve ultimate moodiness as a teenager. I’m thinking fondly back on the one pair of JNCO jeans I owned and my Rage Against the Machine t-shirt with the gun-toting nuns on it. I’m remembering my awesome Courtney Love impression (it’s easy, just strum a guitar and scream obscenities as loud as you can). And I’m thinking long dresses and combat boots look pretty damn cool. I’m not the only one- I tweeted a pic of this outfit and got a pretty positive response. Perhaps we’re all a little homesick for the 90′s. Shall I set up a slumber party for everyone? We can watch The Craft and listen to this awesome new band, Garbage.

Apparently red pants are quite trendy right now. You should know that I was well ahead of the curve; I saw these pants in Gap last spring and fell in love. However, paying full-price for anything at Gap is ridiculous, so I waited and waited and waited for them to go on clearance. They finally did a month or two ago ($13 bucks, holla!) and I’ve been wearing them ever since.

When I went to CVS to get a box of Honey Nut Cheerios (the perfect after-lunch, slightly sweet snack) the young gentleman cashier said “nice pants” then proceeded to chuckle. I’d like to think that he was laughing at his coworker behind him because my pants are way too awesome to really laugh at. Right?
