The Labor Day Blues

by a stylized hysteria on September 9, 2010

I can go weeks without speaking to some of my friends and it doesn’t phase me at all. But if I go more than three days without posting, I feel all guilty. Weird, right?

I unplugged from most of the world for labor day weekend and spent time with my parents. Highlights included:
- Watching The Little Mermaid with my bff (and singing along in my head)
- Getting to meet another friend’s baby, who is adorable and freakishly strong for someone who still has trouble holding his own head up
- Pizza and prosecco with my parents around a fire while their neighbor blasted Prince’s greatest hits

Sadly the weekend is over and I’m still struggling to get back into the routine and adjust to the shortening days and cooler weather. Also bought los gatos malos a scratching post and they refuse to acknowledge it. Jerks.

Here’s my last little bit of summer for you- a few outfit pics I took last week and before and never posted.

Pink, it’s my new obsession.

It’s really not a new obsession. Hot pink has always been one of my favorite colors. So any new acquisition in this shade makes me giddy.

Case in point: dolce vita’s pela wedges.

They come in damn near every neutral under the sun-black, brown, grey, silver. What color did I have to have? PINK!

I love them so much, I wore them two days in a row. And I might be wearing them again today. That’s the same hairdo both days, by the way. Works great for those days when you wake up late, stare at your blow-dryer and hair products and just think “fuck it.”

And a bonus Calliope picture because… well, look at her!

Vintage Success #2

by a stylized hysteria on June 1, 2010

I don’t have good luck when it comes to vintage shopping. Give me a bargain store and I can sniff out a deal in under 20 minutes. But put me in a vintage store and I wander the aisles aimlessly, trying to pull inspiration and vision out of the musty polyester and scratchy wool. Which is why the SoWa market was such a godsend for me. I was really excited to visit the Haberdash’s stand, which is run by very cool Boston blogger, Punky. And damn was it worth it. Within five minutes, I found the dress. Slightly sheer, nude (well, if you’re a white chick), classy, and all around perfect. I had been searching for something just like this. I switched out the fabric belt for something a little more substantial and spent the day walking around with my head high, thinking “I’m a vintage shopper! Yay me!”

If you’re curious about vintage success #1, it’s a multi-colored sequined, knee-length dress I got from the Salvation Army in South Boston. It fits like it was made for me. It’s in such good condition I suspect it was never worn, and it only cost $8. Nothing will top that find!

Here I am…

hiding among the greenery. I wore this on Tuesday to an all-day work conference. I had to look decent but it was also hot enough for birds to burst into flames in midflight. Linen and silk (even cheap linen and silk) work well for these kind of circumstances.

These are my new fab shades bought last weekend at the SoWa market from vintage seller Nicole at Fidget Finds. You know how Lucky always describes boutiques as having a “carefully edited” selection? I never really got the phrase until visiting Nicole’s booth. Everything she brought to the market was gorgeous, in great condition, and just plain cool. There was no need to rifle through ugly stuff to get to the good stuff. It was all good. Sadly, I’ve been persuaded to stick to a budget (I type that with a grimace on my face) so I left with only sunglasses. I couldn’t resist a great dress from another vintage seller, so you’ll be seeing that soon.
